Sony Announces PlayStation Showcase for Next Week

This year, the summer of gaming activities begins a little earlier. On May 24, Sony will host a PlayStation Showcase event, the company stated. According to the company, gamers should “expect a glimpse at several new creations from PlayStation Studios, as well as spellbinding games from our third-party partners and indie creators.” All these gaming activities would be streamed on both Twitch and YouTube channels.

This announcement was made in a PlayStation blog post, the event will start at 1 PM Pacific / 3 PM Eastern / 9 PM UK (so 9 Am on May 25 AEST). The stream will last longer than an hour and feature games for both the PS5 and PS VR2. It seems like a really big one.

What to expect from Sony includes a number of upcoming blockbusters, such as the superhero games Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, but don’t be surprised if Death Stranding 2 makes an appearance. Spider-Man 2 for example, is expected to launch in fairly soon the fall of 2023 despite Sony showing very little of the game so far. Naughty Dog, which is developing a number of new games but revealed The Last of Us multiplayer entry earlier this year, is another PlayStation Studios headlining studio.

The notice also specifies “new IP,” so be prepared for the unexpected. The fact that Sony has promised “several new creations” does suggest that there may be some brand-new game announcements at the showcase.

There will not be an E3 again this year, so publishers like Sony are holding significant news conferences on their own. The last took place in September 2021, during which time the publisher officially unveiled God of War: Ragnarok and Aspyr even made an appearance to present Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
